This contract position is available from the date of hire to July 31, 2023 with possibility of yearly renewal. A commitment to being able to work evenings, weekends and holidays and travel to and work at multiple locations, including off campus sites throughout the lower mainland is required.

The Role
The Softball Head Coach will have the proven experience to develop a high performance softball program coupled with an understanding of a student-centered approach while focusing on the development of the whole student, i.e. academic excellence, athletic excellence, community service and fostering a respectful culture and environment.
ResponsibilitiesThe major responsibilities of this coaching position are:
•Provide overall administrative and sport specific leadership of the program; •Develop, and manage a sustainable Pay-to-Play financial model and business plan; •Identify, recruit, onboard, and develop student-athletes; •Develop a perennial conference championship contending program; •Foster a community of supporters and develop program partners to contribute to the student experience; •Provide coaching leadership in the ongoing development of the student-athletes; •Participate and contribute to the development of the Douglas College and Royals' culture.
The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring proper training techniques, sport specific motor skills acquisition and development through positive coaching and communication. The Head Coach will establish an environment supporting student success through the awareness of physical and mental wellness best practices; including the safe use of facilities, and equipment during sport delivery and participation.
Key responsibility includes:
•Working with Athletics to ensure the coaching staff have the appropriate qualifications as per College policies and the applicable sport governing bodies. i.e. NCCP , NWAC , etc.; •Collaborating with the Athletics department and the Douglas Foundation to develop and implement fundraising initiatives to support on the ongoing needs of the program; •Developing recruiting networks and fostering relationships to promote the program, Royals Athletics and Douglas College within our communities.
These responsibilities will be fulfilled through coordination, planning, implementation, and evaluation of strategies.
Successful candidate works respectfully and cooperatively with the Director, Athletics and Recreation and/or Athletics designate in scheduling, facility issues, and travel planning, budgeting, equipment and administrative requirements.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
•Coaching experience at the post-secondary level i.e. college, university or equivalent level; •A demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and inspire student-athletes; •Good understanding of the NWAC conference, league, rules and expectations; •Success at Provincial Sport or National Sport Championships is an asset; •A Bachelor's degree is preferred, and or equivalent experience; • NCCP (National Coaching Certificate Program) Level 2 or higher is an asset; •Experience in recruiting student-athletes; •Strong communication, motivational, and organizational skills; •Strong foundational knowledge of sport specific training, tactics and technical skills development; •Ability to articulate and implement goals in the development of the program; •Ability to work flexible hours based on the program operations; i.e. daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays to conduct team practices and attend league sanctioned competitions (home & away); •Ability to travel out of country, i.e. United States; •Ability to attend coaches' meetings and related athletic department special events; •Ability to work in a team environment; •Class IV BC Driver's License is an asset.
