Position Overview: 

Microserve is looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join our Professional Services team. This role can be performed anywhere in Western Canada with a preference to hire in a city where we have an Office location.   

The Network Engineer will work closely with our clients and members of the Microserve team. Providing a combination of project, design work, consulting services and operational support. While the most critical qualifications required for this position relate to networking, the ideal candidate has a broad range of IT infrastructure related interests and skill sets. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a range of technologies across various client environments.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Working with Account Executives, the Network Engineer will help develop new opportunities with clients. They will be expected to present and discuss networking challenges to client IT staff and management including C-Suite level. 

  • Working as part of a team, the Network Engineer will be responsible for RFP/SoW content and presentation of solutions to clients. 

  • Applying troubleshooting skills to resolve network issues. 

  • Maximizing network performance by monitoring activity, troubleshooting, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects 

  • Replacing faulty systems, hardware and implementing new hardware solutions 

  • Collaborating with project management teams and other engineers regularly 

  • Repairing and maintaining networks. 

  • Designing and installing network infrastructure, including on-premises systems and cloud networking solutions 

  • Evaluating client requirements and designing system architecture and parameters 

  • Assess, Design, deploy, maintain and support IT infrastructure solutions leveraging a variety of technologies, with a primary focus on networking 

  • Evaluate performance of existing IT environments and technologies in use by our clients and document recommend changes to improve operational effectiveness  

  • Maintain documentation including assisting with the development of reports on IT solutions to support department direction or strategies  

  • Coordinate with vendors as required for support, patches, version upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting  

  • Maintain system alignment with ITIL best practices and client standards, processes and procedures  

  • Provide regular, proactive updates to internal Microserve teams as well as client representatives 

  • Continuous learning and advancement of technical skills as required to best support Microserve’s business model, including self-study, lab time and pursuit of relevant certifications  

 
 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum 5-10 years of related network administration and/or IT consulting experience 

  • Degree or Diploma with a related IT concentration is strongly desirable  

  • Strong working knowledge of networking technologies, including switching/routing, network security, and wireless, is a mandatory requirement  

  • Experience with a broad range of vendor platforms is desirable  

  • Certifications relating to network technologies such as Cisco CCNP, FortiNet NSE6 or better are required.  

  • Strong working knowledge of other related infrastructure technologies is an asset. Examples of technology skills that would be considered an asset include:  

  • Microsoft server operating systems and related systems  

  • SAN/NAS Storage  

  • Virtualization (VMware/Citrix/Microsoft) 

  • Exceptional customer service, and professional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills  

  • Experience working in Enterprise-scale IT environments strongly preferred 

  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills 

  • Receiving and analyzing information, data, and software 

  • Effective written and oral communication skills 

  • Strong time management and organizational skills 

  • Strategic and logical thinking
