Overview

The Corporate Finance department of WorkSafeBC is looking for one highly motivated Co-op student, Corporate Finance to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The student will assist the department to assist in supporting our goal of maintaining cost-effectiveness and financial accountability for WorkSafeBC. This is an eight-month temporary opportunity starting in September 2025.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager and mentor to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
  • Support the Corporate Finance team with monthly administrative duties, including cross transfers journal entries, month end accrual entries, reviewing expenses and reporting needs for the department
  • Collaborate on ad-hoc projects, like preparing monthly financial reports to support team meetings, following up on internal checklists to ensure financial accountability, and conducting analysis from multiple sources for reporting purposes
  • Respond to general internal inquiries and escalate as needed
  • Assist the team with preparing presentation and spreadsheets as required

Your background and experience
  • You are a third- or fourth-year student enrolled in Accounting, Business Administration or in a related program
  • You have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint required
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office and customer facing environment is preferred
