Overview
We're looking for a Manager, Messaging, Collaboration & Desktop Technologies to shape the future of WorkSafeBC's client-facing infrastructure services. In this role, you'll lead the strategy, planning, and delivery of messaging, voice, collaboration, and desktop technologies including virtual desktop infrastructure, and guide the modernization of cloud and hybrid device management frameworks.
As a key leader within the IT Security & End User Technology Department, you'll oversee a high-performing engineering and support team, champion emerging technologies, strengthen enterprise security, and ensure WorkSafeBC staff have reliable, secure, and modern tools that support communication, productivity, and collaboration across the organization.

What you'll do
- Provide the vision, define, document, and maintain an ongoing messaging, collaboration, voice, and virtual desktop technology strategy that is aligned to the ITA Division's objectives and WorkSafeBC's strategic goals.
- Participate in long and short range strategic and tactical planning for the ITA Division; work closely with managers of all groups in the ITA Division who are responsible for implementing and managing hardware and software technology; recommend strategic direction for deploying new and advanced messaging, collaboration, voice, and virtual desktop infrastructure technologies at WorkSafeBC.
- Develops and implements all messaging, collaboration, voice, and desktop technology design frameworks and standards.
- Manages the implementation of proactive solutions on messaging, collaboration, voice, and desktop technologies with the goal of leveraging WorkSafeBC's technology investment.
- Develop and implement systems management Cloud and Hybrid frameworks, software updates, patch management, and device management.
- Stay up to date with advancements in messaging, collaboration, and desktop technologies, especially those related to AI and cloud computing. Place particular emphasis on emerging service delivery models, the strategic directions of major hardware and software vendors in the AI and cloud sectors, and industry best practices.
- Initiate and manage project teams to research and evaluate new messaging, collaboration, and virtual desktop tools and products that will enable enhanced communication for WorkSafeBC; prepare project proposals; ensure that projects are assigned, scheduled, and controlled accordingly to project plans; prepare product and tool selection and recommendation documents; produce business cases and implementation plans; and manage tool and product implementation.

Assign work, set performance goal and provide feedback, coaching, and developmental planning to support and motivate staff in meeting expectations.
- Promote staff development by creating and maintaining a supportive working environment within the department by ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, providing opportunities for staff involvement in planning and recognizing employees' contributions and achievements. Assist and support staff as changes and new initiatives are implemented in the workplace.
- Analyze and evaluate the key processes within the ITA Division. Work with other ITA Division departments on an ongoing basis to develop, implement, and optimize effective information systems security.
- Foster a constructive labour relation's environment within the department by dealing proactively with issues. Administer the provisions of the collective agreement and handle formal grievances at the informal level as required.
- Manage the financial resources within the allocated departmental budget in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Plan, develop, and administer annual operating budget for the assigned area. Monitor ongoing financial reporting, investigate variances, and take corrective action as required. Liaise with vendors in securing qualified contract staff as required.
- Implement the provisions of WorkSafeBC's Corporate Safety, Health, and Security policy within assigned area, including performing regular safety inspections, reporting real or potential hazards, holding regular safety meetings, and conducting accident investigations.
- Ensure that necessary administrative and technical resources and services are available to support staff in doing their work by identifying needs, coordinating with other departments, and taking appropriate action.
Your background and experience
- A bachelor's degree in computer science
- A minimum of 10 years of related experience in messaging, collaboration, desktop, or virtual desktop infrastructure technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing technical teams and complex initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of collaboration platforms, system management frameworks, and enterprise desktop environments.
- Experience working in large, complex organizations with diverse technical needs.
