Job Description:
The Wealth Governance and Control team is the protector of our businesses guided by the Three Lines of Defense Risk Framework: Risk Ownership, Risk Oversight, and Internal Audit. Our overall goal is to oversee the compliance of business risk, controls and oversight activities.
The Tax Advisory & Oversight team is responsible for identifying, assessing and communicating relevant tax-related regulatory changes and providing oversight of tax-related regulatory requirements, identifying & assessing risks.
Job Description
The primary purpose of the Senior Analyst, Tax Advisory & Oversight is to provide specialized governance and control guidance and support for the business and functional areas, and to support implementation of policies, processes and/or initiatives to meet business governance and control objectives. The Senior Analyst provides complex reporting, analysis, testing and assessments. The Senior Analyst is a tax subject matter expert.

Job Description
The primary purpose of the Senior Analyst, Tax Advisory & Oversight is to provide specialized governance and control guidance and support for the business and functional areas, and to support implementation of policies, processes and/or initiatives to meet business governance and control objectives. The Senior Analyst provides complex reporting, analysis, testing and assessments. The Senior Analyst is a tax subject matter expert.
The successful candidate will:
- Ensure programs / policies / practices are well managed, meet business needs / priorities and comply with regulatory requirement
- Protect the interests of the organization - identify and manage risks and escalate non-standard, high risk transactions / activities as appropriate
- Maintain a culture of risk management and control in alignment with risk appetite
- Execute monitoring activities to identify key issues and trends that could lead to non-compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, and/or identify risks/gaps in processes
- Develop robust monitoring plans and test steps
- Prepare and present monitoring progress and results to management and business partners
- Assist in the development and preparation of reports to communicate results of monitoring activities
- Provide tax subject matter expertise to projects / initiatives, and participate in identifying, designing and testing solutions and supporting implementation activities
- Support a culture of risk management by identifying opportunities to strengthen and improve processes and controls
Key Accountabilities:
- Coordinate with and conduct reviews of Wealth functions that impact tax reporting in accordance with standard audit methodology ensuring completion within prescribed time and scope parameters
- Develop/contribute to the review planning process by developing, updating and executing related review programs in accordance with established standards
- Prepare and present review results, findings and recommendations to Tax and Operations management as appropriate
- Develop a good understanding of current business activities and related tax reporting risk and use this understanding in the development of review programs
- Provide guidance to Wealth areas on initiatives resulting from reviews tax reporting related matters and impact. Represent Wealth Tax & Government Reporting as the Oversight Specialist at meetings within Wealth as appropriate
- Prioritize and manage own workload to meet SLA requirements for service and productivity
- Ensure Oversight related programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, and align with business priorities
- Protect the interests of the organization - identify and manage tax reporting related risks, and ensure the prompt and thorough resolution of escalated non-standard, high risk issues
- Keep others informed and up-to-date about ongoing projects
- Ability to execute on ad hoc, complex/ non-standard requests and conduct advanced analysis as required. Provide advanced analysis to support business partners, functional areas or centres of expertise
- Research and investigate a range of operational / reporting / process issues related to tax reporting
- Recommend solutions related to issues that impact tax reporting and tax regulatory compliance
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years relevant experience
- Undergraduate degree preferred
- Audit, Compliance, G&C, GAML or Risk related experience an asset
- Accounting or tax designation an asset
- Subject matter expert in tax regulatory and Canadian / QI tax reporting requirements
- Expert knowledge of areas in Wealth Operations which impact tax reporting including Income Processing, Corporate Actions, and Client Documentation
- Understanding of audit methodology
- Ability to employ complex analytical tools to perform data analysis
- Meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and quality assurance mindset
- Hands-on experience in substantive testing, advanced Excel proficiency, and coding skills in SQL, VBA, and / or Python
- Experience BI Tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Power BI, and Databricks is beneficial
- Effective time management and organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and priorities within a highly demanding environment as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Independent thinking with exceptional analytical skills and strong business acumen
- Self-driven with ability to work effectively both independently and within a close team environment
