WSP's Earth & Environment group is currently seeking an Senior Environmental Engineer or Scientist for our Site Assessment and Remediation (SAR) team in Newfoundland and Labrador. Reporting to our SAR Team Lead in Newfoundland and Labrador, this role will provide project management services for environmental site assessment, remediation and various projects across NL.

Position Overview: WSP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Environmental Engineer to join our dynamic team in Saint John, Newfoundland. In this role, you will be at the forefront of our environmental initiatives, leading projects that aim to protect and enhance our natural environment. You will leverage your extensive knowledge and experience to ensure that our projects comply with all relevant environmental regulations and standards. As a senior member of our team, you will provide technical expertise, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Environmental Assessments and Audits: Conduct comprehensive environmental assessments and audits for a variety of projects, identifying potential environmental impacts and recommending mitigation measures.
  • Environmental Protection Plans: Develop and implement detailed environmental protection plans and strategies to minimize the environmental footprint of our projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all projects comply with federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations, staying up-to-date with changes in legislation and industry standards.
  • Pollution Control Systems: Design, install, operate, and maintain systems to monitor and control pollutants, ensuring that emissions and discharges meet regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management: Lead and manage medium to large environmental projects, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure successful project delivery on time and within budget.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and review environmental reports, permit applications, and other documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, scientists, and planners, to develop innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training and support to junior staff and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand their needs, provide tailored solutions, and maintain strong, positive relationships.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental engineering, with a focus on project management and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and standards in Canada.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in environmental modeling software and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
